The Mission of IMI is to:

- establish the highest transparent standards of excellence among mediators
- identify mediators that reach those standards
- enable users of mediation services to find outstanding mediators globally
- help expand the use of mediation by advancing its understanding and acceptance globally

IMI encourages and convenes stakeholders to progress the global professionalization of mediation.

IMI is a non-profit charitable foundation. IMI is neutral, and does not compete in the market for mediation services. IMI is funded by Patrons and benefits from voluntary support from many of the world’s top professionals in the mediation profession.
