Experience Qualification Path
to IMI Certification
As from July 1, 2009, the IMI scheme will be open only to mediators able to demonstrate their competency by passing a roleplay test, conducted locally or online under the scrutiny of qualified Independent Assessors applying consistent benchmarks pursuant to criteria approved by the Independent Standards Commission.
However, until June 30th 2009, experienced commercial mediators will be able to gain IMI Certification via the Experience Qualification Path, and include their Mediator Profile on the IMI Web Portal, without undertaking a test. Mediators may apply for IMI Certification via the Experience Qualification Path if they qualify under any one of the following three criteria:
Category 1. Having already passed the experience-based Mediator competency assessment of the organizations listed below that are recognized by IMI as meeting IMI quality assessment requirements for experienced Mediators:

The following steps are required for IMI Certification by all applicants meeting any of the three criteria above:

B. Apply for IMI Certification by completing a full Mediator Profile (including the Feedback Digest) for uploading onto IMI Web Portal.
Please Note: IMI will make a nominal annual charge to IMI Certified Mediators to cover the cost of carrying their Profile on the IMI web portal, the functionality and maintenance of user search costs, and other portal costs. This charge, or Listing Fee, will not be billed until the Third Quarter of 2009. Accordingly, IMI Certified Mediators will be able to feature their Profile on the IMI web portal until that time at no cost. It is anticipated that the annual Profile Listing Fee charged in the Third Quarter will be €125 (currently equivalent to $175 and £110). There will also be an option to pay a three year Profile Listing Fee at a discounted rate anticipated to be €300 (currently equivalent to $420 and £300).
Note: the Experience Qualification Path to IMI Certification is intended for those who have extensive and demonstrable experience as a mediator (and not, for example, as an advocate or as a party in mediations).

* IMI may reduce this requirement in exceptional cases, where fewer mediations may have been conducted but involved substantial time and unusual complexity.
