IMI Certified Mediator Blazo Nedic, Mediator, Attorney, Trainer and Consultant at ADR Partners Serbia will be delivering this valuable session free-of-charge on Friday 24 April, at 3pm Central European Time (CEST). Read a description and register below.

“It is inevitable that, sooner or later, you will do or say something that will offend or hurt your peer, or the same may happen to you. Apology has a power of healing and restoring relationships and it is thus one of the most complex social interactions. From spilled coffees, missed deadlines, over broken relationships and divorces, to property damages and personal injuries, apology is a regular element of everyday life, workplace and business relations, but is particularly important for dispute resolution professionals.

Sincere, complete and timely apology can go a long way in restoring trust, protecting reputation, expressing compassion, and offering comfort, and thus opening a way for forgiveness and ultimately, reconciliation. And yet, genuine and effective apologies are rare and there is a surprising absence of focus on this essential aspect of dispute resolution, both in research and training.

This 1-hour Webinar is an abbreviated version of my workshop on Apology in Mediation, and is based on the course, and delivered with permission, of prof. Peter Robinson of the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Pepperdine University School of Law, and his amazing book “Apology, Forgiveness and Reconciliation – For Good Attorneys and other Peacemakers”.

In this Webinar, we will explore examples of good and bad apologies and discuss:

  • The value of apology in dispute resolution
  • Meaning, types and motivations for an apology
  • How to draft and deliver an effective apology
  • Lawyers advising apology
  • Mediators facilitating apology

I think it was very informative. So much of what the speaker shared can be used practically by mediators faced with emotionally charged or difficult mediations.
I for sure would be experimenting with the information shared.
