Mediation Profile

Mediator, Arbitrator and ADR Specialist

Ms. Sambold is one of United States' leading figures in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution. With over a decade of experience as a conflict resolution specialist, she has served as a neutral in over 1,000 cases across a broad spectrum of civil litigation matters.

Fully bilingual (English/Spanish) and licensed Attorney in California, U.S. Federal Court Southern District and Colombia. Has worked in Latin America  and the U.S. Her unique common and civil law expertise and fluency in English and Spanish makes her extremely qualified to understand the cultural nuances and undertones that facilitate the resolution of disputes in multicultural settings and between multinational parties. Has worked with people of all nationalities and has a clear understanding of the dynamics of mediating and arbitrating across national boundaries.

Frequent speaker and author on ADR topics. Former adjunct professor of law at California Western School of Law masters program for international lawyers. Has taught extensively in conflict resolution, negotiation, cross-cultural communication and ADR in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

As a prominent leader in the field, she serves as the American Bar Association (ABA) Dispute Resolution Section  Executive officer, ABA Advanced Mediation and Advocacy Skills Institute Co-Chair, California Lawyers Association Litigation Section-ADR Committee Advisor, and San Diego County Bar Association (SDCBA) ADR Section Chair.  Former Co-Chair of the California Lawyers Association Litigation Section - ADR Committee and Board Director of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) North American Branch and the Southern California Mediation Association (SCMA).

Received her training and credentials in dispute resolution from Harvard Law School, Pepperdine University School of Law - Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution, Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and Columbia Law School.

Ana Sambold, Esq. has successfully helped thousands of parties and attorneys to resolve their most challenging disputes involving commercial matters, breach of contract, fraud, contract interpretation, misrepresentation, partnerships, management, dissolution, creditor - debtor, insurance coverage, subrogation, torts, property damages, construction defect, defamation, personal injury, professional malpractice, attorneys’ fees, employment and labor, succession, trusts, family, consumer/business matters, government entities, and cases involving multinational and multilingual parties.

Ms. Sambold customizes her mediation style according to the type of dispute, parties involved and complexity of the case. She explores the parties’ underlying interests, needs, priorities, and emotional issues, carefully review the facts and legal issues and facilitate a fair process that permits each party to participate in the result. Accordingly, she might adopts a facilitative or evaluative style or a combination of both.

Prior to the mediation, she likes to learn all she can about the case. She normally requests mediation summaries and invite parties to submit all the information that might be helpful to resolve the case. During the mediation, she provides both parties with the opportunity to explain their perspectives and vent their frustrations and helped  them to objectively analyze the legal and factual claims of the case. Then, she works with everyone to help them through the process and find their unique solution. She always encourage parties to invent their own solutions, be creative and take an active role in the process. She respects parties' autonomy in mediation and only share her views of the respective parties' positions as a neutral when requested or when it appears that it will assist with resolution.  Her ultimate goal is bringing so much needed closure to the parties.
