Field of expertise Business Adviser, Commercial Mediator, Accountant. Background Austin worked as an accountant in professional practice in Dublin from 1976 to 2008. He worked in a wide range of areas including • audit & forensic accounting • business advice & strategic planning • insolvency • tax planning • property consultancy Additionally he has acted as chairman to a number of companies and has particular experience in advising small to medium sized enterprises and family run businesses on strategic planning, business development and succession planning. Mediation Austin is a CEDR accredited mediator (2004) and has experience in a wide range of business disputes. He is a Council member of the Irish Commercial Mediation Association (ICMA). He is committed to the promotion of commercial mediation within the business community in Ireland as a first option in dispute resolution. Austin set up his own Commercial Mediation Practice in 2008 and works closely with legal firms and other experienced commercial mediators. He has trained alongside international mediators and continues a programme of professional development in the area of commercial mediation. Outcome: Settled in 1.5 days. • Dispute between partners in construction and property development company and need to dissolve the partnership. Company value €16m. Outcome: settled 1 day & follow up. • Property Partnership dispute over division of Shareholdings and treatment of sensitive issues. Value of property €10m. Outcome: settled in 2.5 days. • Landlord/Tenant dispute over continuation of lease and future relations. Outcome: settled 1 day & follow up. • Family business dispute, sale of business between siblings. Business value €12m. Outcome: deal agreed. • Dispute between wholesaler and manufacturer over terms of a distribution agreement and stock valuations. Dispute amount €1.3m Outcome: settled after mediation. • Family business and inheritance dispute. Siblings in bitter dispute. Business value €5m Outcome: Agreement in principle, business restarted trading, deal o/s. - Mediator • Dispute between Pension Fund adviser and Fund beneficiary over advice In progress - Mediator • Debt disputes between sub-contractor and main contractor in construction industry.
