Feedback digest by Michael Schneider V, 7 Sep 2018 This Feedback Digest for Brigitte Irene Kehrer is based on 20 feedbacks received from participants in mediations, submitted in 2016-2017. The feed-back was based on : • 10 mediations given for commercial disputes in Europe and Switzerland • 3 community mediations, neighborhood and work groups, in France and Switzerland • 5 international mediations for peace building, civil society and military forces 1. Held in Mali, northern armed forces coordination 2. Tunisia, ( construction ) 3. Marocco, ( twice) oil mediation, 4. Bangkok ethnic minorities mediation (Karen refugees) • Several Mediations in and for a catholic cloister and conflict prevention classes • 2 intercultural family mediations and adoption issues The average duration of the mediations conducted has been several days, over a month, divided mostly in half days, over two to three weeks. For the commercial mediations: Parties have liked the very perseverant non judgmental way the mediation was held. With the capacity to really help each party to express exactly what he or she wanted to say. Giving time to understand the other side was as well very much appreciated. The mediator used the five steps paying attention that everything that had to be said concerning feelings and needs was being heard by themselves and the other. For the community mediations : Parties were first surprised to be talking to the mediator and not to each other, they said it gave them some latitude to better ponder about was being said. Groups of people in a mediation could exchange and compare views about how they perceived the conflict. For the international mediations: Brigitte Kehrer has worked in peace building and mediation in conflict zones with the United Nations and the pool for experts for peace of the Swiss Foreign Affairs. 1. In Mali with two other mediators, coordination and mediation for the Northern presence in the desert and identification tools for Daech among the population 2. In Tunisia with construction problems linked to authorizations and procedures for people who do not possess the papers as owners of their land and which to build their house, in accordance with the law. 3. In Morocco twice one week of mediation with two other mediators for oil extraction in the South and ethnic problems between Arabic people and Berber origin people. 4. In Bangkok for the Mediation Support Unit of the UN for the Karen refugees: mediation between the government and the refugee instances. 5. In a catholic abbey in Switzerland one eek of mediation and conflict prevention and mediation rules for a better living together. ( it was very very interesting because there were only monks and I am a woman… and they trusted me ! ) For the intercultural family mediations: Both mediations were linked with adoption of foreign children issues and different origins of both the parents from the adopted child. Mediations brought through my registration in the State of Geneva of intercultural problems. One mediation succeeded the other; the lady left because could not stand to envisage losing her child s she wanted divorce. Brigitte Kehrer gave as well two years mediation training to the public administration employees in Canton the Vaud in Switzerland, as well as Mediation Studio training for the future mediators at the HES university of Geneva. Clients like her sense of acuity and listening, her great experience of different countries and customs on earth and when necessary her capacity to bring a touch of humor without making the parties not feel understood in their sufferings. She is known as very human and kind and right down to the point. But as well capable of saying that things look not so easy for people not wanting to put themselves to the negotiation table.
