International Mediator and Arbitrator, based at 20 Essex Street Chambers (London & Singapore). He became a barrister in 1983, and was appointed as a QC (Queens Counsel) in 2006. With over 30 years of experience of commercial disputes, David now works almost exclusively as a mediator and arbitrator. He also lectures and trains on mediation, and dispute resolution.
Examples of recent mediations in which he has acted as mediator: Public procurement dispute involving provision of health services, with value of about £20m. Commodity dispute involving Far Eastern and Indian parties, relating to rice trading and involving financing issues. Dispute concerning major infrastructure project in the Gulf. Mediating in the Gulf with U.S and locally-based parties. Dispute relating to global recruitment outsourcing contract relating to the IT sector. Pharmaceutical distribution and supply disputes, relating to the UK and European markets. Iron ore trading dispute, involving a bank and trading entity, and raising regulatory issues. Since accreditation in 2002, he has regularly been appointed in a wide range of mediations, often involving complex issues or difficult relationships, and has in recent years mediated approximately 80 commercial cases.
His style combines robust legal analysis and reality testing with a pragmatic focus on commercial needs.
