After having studied mediation and conflict resolution extensively over the past five years, I am finally diving into the world of practice by undertaking a mediator certification practicum here in Washington State, USA. I am also fortunate to be employed by Northwest Mediation Center as a Program Producer and, soon, a volunteer mediator (once I complete the certification process). I have followed the IMI/YMI work and community for some time online, and am excited to be taking the next steps towards becoming an active member.Â
I am currently a Program Producer at Northwest Mediation Center (NMC), helping a small but dedicated non-profit dispute resolution organization with the important tasks of communication, outreach and event planning. I am also currently undertaking the certified mediator practicum program through NMC so that I can join the list of volunteer mediators that work for this and other sliding-scale fee non-profit DRCs. I undertook my master's studies in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, as a Rotary Peace Fellow.Â
I have undertaken two different 40-hour Basic Mediation Training courses in addition to the academic component of my graduate studies. I am also now 60 hours into the 120 required hours to become a certified mediator through the Washington Mediation Association.Â
