Feedback digest by Joel Lee Tye Beng, 17 Jul 2018 Mr. George Lim is one of the early pioneers of mediation in Singapore and has mediated cases at the Singapore Mediation Centre since 1997. He also acts as a mediator in independent cases. This Feedback Digest is based on feedback in 25 mediations conducted over 2014 and the early part of 2015. This feedback derives from surveys administered by the Singapore Mediation Centre and from email correspondence between parties and counsel to the mediator. All the comments in the feedback reviewed were unanimous in their praise for George’s mediation skills. While not all matters settled, even in those cases, parties and counsel spoke highly of George. Apart from his professionalism, patience and perseverance, parties and their lawyers have referred to George as being pivotal to the resolution of their disputes. He is described as an expert mediator whose style and skill “transcended personality and cultural differences”. One of George’s strengths is his people skills. He listens well, and genuinely cares about the parties and cases which come before him for mediation. Parties who had appeared before him had commented that he was sensitive, open and sympathetic. He inspires trust and clearly earns the confidence of parties and their lawyers. George is known to be a mediator who is tenacious and is determined to help parties reach a positive outcome at their mediations. Comments from the feedback indicates that he has the ability to manage the myriad of factors (personal, commercial, legal, practice, etc) to assist parties in reaching a sensible commercial agreement. One counsel has described him as “exemplary” and another indicates that he would recommend George without reservation. It is telling that comments also indicate that as a result of having a dispute mediated by George, some parties and counsel have become even more open to have future disputes referred to for mediation.
