Ida Landeweer
Ms Ida Landeweer, mediator since 2008, has worked for our organization (Van Opstal & partners, mediation, coaching and training) as a mediator in labour conflicts since April 2011. Since then we have offered her close to 400 mediations. Some mediations are still in progress, some had to be suspended because of an external situation and some did not start after intakes (due to several reasons).
She has concluded 316 mediations, of which 281 successfully, mostly with an agreement, which is a success rate of 89%. This is a very high rate considering we deal almost only with complex, escalated labour conflicts. Also remarkable is the fact that of 281 successfully finished mediations, about 55% ended in a so-called 'exit-mediation' and 45% were successful in the context of a continuation of the labour relationship: the employee went back to his or her work. Remarkable, since in our field about 70% of all mediations end in an exit-mediation and in her case the result is just 55%. These results indicate that she has an exceptional ability to truly reconcile people.
Feedback received for Ms Landeweer address her expeditiousness and resoluteness in the good sense of the word. These characteristics are, in my opinion, important when you have to deal with parties who are stuck ('heels in the sand)', hardly able or willing to move at all and, in general, very slow in decision-making.
Comments received indicate that although Ms Landeweer is a good listener and very empathic, she is able to get parties in motion and keep them in motion till the solution is reached. On average, a mediation process takes, in her case, only 5 weeks and about 13.2 hours per mediation, all in. These are really good results.
Needless to say, we are very happy with Mrs. Landeweer as a mediator, since we, as an organization, also have to deal with the requirements of our contract parties (insurance companies etc.).
After each mediation we send feedback forms to the mediation parties. As far as Ms Landeweer’s performance is concerned her average score is 8.4 (on a scale of 1 to 10) over the last few years. This is a really good result. In general parties in mediation are not so inclined to give compliments, since results are, of course, hardly ever fully satisfying for both parties.
Most of the respondents have recommended Mrs. Landeweer as mediator. People are (very) satisfied about her expertise and impartiality, both very important key factors of a professional mediator. She definitely has developed her own successful style of mediation, very adequate for the difficult labour conflicts we are dealing with in our business.
