Now practicing as an independent Mediator as "Cole Alternative Dispute Resolution" www.coleadr.com.

Jim has been admitted to practice in federal courts in California, Florida, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Wisconsin, the International Trade Commission and before the United States Supreme Court and the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.

A retired partner at Quarles & Brady LLP, James R. Cole is both a respected litigation attorney and a skilled mediator of Patent, Trademark, Copyright and Licensing disputes. His experience in open court and behind the closed doors of the negotiating room enables him to guide disputing parties through many of the legal and procedural pitfalls, holdups and blockades that can prevent effective resolution of their disagreements. He has been listed in the Best Lawyers of America and recognized among “Madison’s Best” ADR lawyers.

Further, Jim has significant, direct experience in intellectual property matters that affect a wide range of industries. Among other cases, he has helped resolve disputes involving high technology (software and biotech) companies, medical equipment manufacturers including medical imaging, pharmaceutical companies and financial institutions. As a mediator, he has been certified by the Franklin Pierce Law Center, which focuses its training on mediation skills for intellectual property and commercial disputes, and regularly participates in mediation workshops for legal and industry professionals. He has also been appointed to the American Arbitration Association and National Arbitration Forum Panels of Mediators.

Additionally, he has designed and taught courses in International Commercial Arbitration at the University of Wisconsin Law School.

Combination of Facilitative and Evaluative as pragmatically fits the dispute. Jim is able to create imaginative solutions that work for both parties—business and licensing solutions that might not be available in litigation. Most importantly, when the parties are focused on the details of a dispute, Jim can see the big picture and has the ability to convey that picture to the parties, a necessary first step in reaching an acceptable solution to a business problem.

"I’ve seen Jim Cole successfully mediate a complex case where I doubted settlement could be reached. If it weren’t for his abilities, settlement would have failed. He has my unqualified endorsement as a Mediator.
