Parties and counsel who have used Mr. Bulman would overwhelmingly use his services again and would, without hesitation, recommend him to others. Typical of the comments reflecting Mr. Bulman’s acceptability are: (i) Mr. Bulman is a well recognized mediator and I have recommended him to other counsel; (ii) John is able to resolve incredibly difficult cases by virtue of his preparation, his tenacity, his extensive knowledge of applicable law, and his ability to manage many different (and difficult) personality types; (iii) For complicated construction cases with difficult parties, John is the guy. He is smart, knowledgeable and persistent; and (iv) John Bulman is an excellent mediator. He is one of the top mediators in New England (and perhaps beyond). Mr. Bulman’s mediation skills and abilities are rated as highly effective. Typical of feedback received in this regard are: (i) Mr. Bulman is an experienced construction lawyer and has a working knowledge of building design and building construction; (ii) He showed great intelligence, perseverance and diplomacy; (iii) I have seen John successfully convince very stubborn litigants of the benefits of resolving their claims without alienating or entrenching them. That is a rare skill not shared by many mediators; (iv) His knowledge of the case facts and applicable law made a decisive difference in the outcome. He did not allow either side to confuse the issues or lose focus of each other's case strengths; (v) His neutrality and knowledge of the dispute make the parties work hard; and (vi) He knows construction and is able to quickly identify the key issues. He pushes people to realize or understand the weak parts of their case. He also is very persistent and doesn't let the parties off easy. Mr. Bulman is also highly regarded for his ability to effect a positive outcome. For example, one provider of feedback noted that he was very satisfied both with the results and John's performance/contributions. It was also noted that John was also a mediator in a more recent six-party construction case in which his client was not initially involved. John persuaded his client to participate and contribute to an overall settlement. Costs were widely reported as reasonable in the context of the value of the disputes mediated by Mr. Bulman, and in general a very high degree of satisfaction was reported. No reportable negative comments have been received since Mr. Bulman’s designation as an IMI Certified Mediator.
