Mediation Profile

I want to be a mediator because I practise dispute resolution in India where effective alternatives to courts and litigation are the urgent need of the hour since the Indian judicial system is notorious for being one of the slowest in the world. I believe that non-adversarial means encompassed by alternative dispute resolution (“ADR”), such as negotiation and mediation, can be extremely effective to resolve disputes. The aspects of mediation I appreciate the most are that it is party-centric, facilitative and collaborative, and strives towards reconciliation and accomplishing win-win outcomes. I enjoy engaging and interacting with people, and participating in creative problem-solving.

I am an Associate in the Dispute Resolution team at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co., India's leading law firm and a LL.M. graduate from Harvard Law School.

I am also a member of The Peacekeeping and Conflict Resolution Team (PACT), an organisation based in India that promotes consensual dispute resolution. As a part of our agenda to promote mediation, we conduct boot camps and workshops at law schools in India to train students and young practitioners in mediation.

Prior to Harvard Law School, I completed my Training Contract at Allen & Overy, as a part of which I worked in the international arbitration team in the London office and in the dispute resolution team in the Dubai office. I am a gold medallist graduate from the National Law School of India University, Bangalore, which is one of India's leading law schools.

I am a member of The Peacekeeping and Conflict Resolution Team (PACT), an organisation based in India that promotes consensual dispute resolution. As a part of our agenda to promote mediation, we conduct boot camps and workshops at law schools in India to train students and young practitioners in mediation. As a part of my affiliation, I am a speaker at PACT's mediation seminar in Pune, India in January 2019, wherein I will train students in mediation skills and also discuss mediation related developments in India, such as mandatory commercial mediation and 'Med-Arb'.

During my LL.M. at Harvard Law School, I actively engaged with Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution through courses (Mediation, 'Cult' of ADR, Negotiation Workshop), extra-curricular activities, particularly the Harvard Mediation Program as a part of which I became a trained mediator under Massachusetts Law and mediated at the small claims court, and my LL.M. thesis in which I made a case for developing commercial mediation in India.

I continue to engage with academic writing on mediation through the Kluwer Mediation Blog and publications in journals. I wrote a piece titled 'Mandatory Pre-Institution Commercial Mediation in India: Premature Step in the Right Direction' for Kluwer and have an upcoming publication in the American Journal of Mediation on commercial mediation in India.
