Feedback digest by AAA-ICDR, 05:12 This Feedback Digest has been updated to include 6 Feedbacks in more than 6 Mediations as of July 29, 2009. Parties and counsel who have used Larry Rute would overwhelmingly use his services again and would, without hesitation, recommend him to others. Typical of the comments reflecting Mr. Rute’s acceptability are: (i) I always feel like we have a good chance at reaching a settlement when Larry is the mediator. His skill and his objectivity also make it easy for both sides to agree to his services; (ii) Larry is an outstanding mediator with a very effective style and demeanor. He has helped me resolve a number of difficult matters. He always has a solid understanding of the issues and works hard to help the parties reach settlement. He gets the job done and will continue to work even if the session “breaks down”; (iii) Larry is one of my favourite mediators. I have used him twice in the past couple of weeks and will be using him again. He is extremely effective, gets down to business quickly and is well received by clients; (iv) He does a wonderful job and I will continue to use him whenever possible; (v) Mr. Rute is typically our first choice as a mediator for all civil cases my law firm litigates because of his professionalism, experience, temperament and tenacity; (vi) Larry is the most effective and knowledgeable mediator for employment disputes that I have used in my 14+ years of practice. I appreciate the time he takes to prepare, and that he does advance work with the attorneys so that the day of the mediation can be most productive; and (vii) He is well respected by both the plaintiff and defense attorneys. He effectively gains trust, has good communication skills, and gives confidence in his opinions. He takes time to learn the case and communicates in advance with the attorneys. Mr. Rute’s mediation skills and abilities are rated as highly effective. Typical of feedback received in this regard are: (i) He is calm and persuasive; (ii) Larry is always prepared. He understands the issues involved and has a highly intuitive sense of the dynamics of the parties. His patience is outstanding and demeanor excellent; (iii) He does not polarize the parties and works hard to achieve a common ground. He has been successful in achieving a resolution in all mediations we have worked on together; (iv) He has a great way of pointing out strengths and weaknesses in the case with the client present. He does so without making them feel bad or pumping them up; and (v) Mr. Rute has the most skill and ability of any mediator our firm uses. He is keenly aware of the substantive law which governs the dispute and has a reservoir of experience to demonstrate his understanding of how disputes can be resolved within a realistic range. Mr. Rute’s success rate is unparalleled. Mr. Rute is also highly regarded for his ability to effect a positive outcome. For example, one provider of feedback noted that Larry is creative in thinking and communicating. He uses these skills, and his sincere desire to resolve a case, to really help bring parties (who otherwise can’t get along) together. The particular skill I find most helpful is keeping parties at the table, even when it seems the gap between them is large. He then follows up and chips away at the gap, hopefully arriving at a fair value for the case. Costs were widely reported as reasonable in the context of the value of the disputes mediated by Mr. Rute, and in general a very high degree of satisfaction was reported. No reportable negative comments have been received since Mr. Rute’s designation as an IMI Certified Mediator.
