Mediation Profile

Louise Phipps Senft, Esq.
Baltimore Mediation Founder, CEO, Lead Trainer and Mediator.

Honored as a top CEO by SmartCEO Magazine for her leadership of Baltimore Mediation, the first transformative mediation company in the US, which she founded 20 years ago, Louise Phipps Senft is a recognized pioneer in the field, and a renowned mediation advocate, trainer, entrepreneur and public figure across the US and Europe. Voted “Baltimore’s Best Mediator” by Baltimore Magazine, three times named one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women, by The Daily Record, and voted into the Circle of Excellence for her lifetime achievements, Louise Phipps Senft teaches and assists people and organizations worldwide, with approaching conflict and negotiations from a relational approach. For this, and also for her devotion in working to end prejudice against women and racism, Louise Phipps Senft was named “Most Spirited Woman”, by the American Red Cross in 2011.

She is one of the founding members of Mediators Beyond Borders, an international non-profit, and the founding Director of Training for this organization, committed to bringing the transformative mediation approach all over the world, from the US and Latin America, to Africa, Asia and Europe. Since 2009 she is also one of the Board Members of Convergence, an international policy resolution think-tank, based in Washington, DC, focusing on improving US-Pakistan relations, and advocating for healthcare and education reforms in the US. Louise Phipps Senft is the former President of the Maryland Council on Dispute Resolution, a certifying body of the International Mediation Institute, Board Member of the Maryland Court of Appeals Alternative Dispute Resolution Commission, and advisor to the Chief Judge and the Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO). She has been an adjunct Professor of Law teaching Mediation, Negotiation and ADR at the University of Maryland School of Law for the past 17 years, and she is a former faculty member at Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation, Insight Initiative. As a former UN selected speaker, she coined phrases such as “communication brokers” and “transformative breakthrough moments” for the work of mediators internationally.

Louise Phipps Senft is an internationally certified Enneagram teacher in the Narrative Tradition, and she has pioneered methods of self-observation and reduction of personal reactivity for the “Master Reflective Practitioner” program. She is the author of numerous articles, a columnist for a local newspaper based in Baltimore, Maryland, and one of the contributing authors of Transformative Mediation: a Sourcebook (2010).

Currently, she is the only Accredited Continuing Education Trainer, approved by the Association of Conflict Resolution to deliver training programs on any mediation topic.

With over 25 years of professional experience, Ms. Senft and her team provide mediation, group dialogue and relational negotiation training for agencies and corporations, court systems and bar associations, thousands of families and family foundations and businesses, and mediators around the world. Among her contributions, some of the most recent projects involve training collaboration programs with legal and mediation groups and associations in Hamburg, Germany, Lisbon, Portugal, and Milan and Rome, Italy.

I have over 21 years of mediation experience and have mediated over 4,000 conflicts in the last two decades. My firm offers family, divorce, commercial, workplace, and organizational mediation.

Highlights from my experience: I was selected as part of the first nationally certified mediation training team for the United States Postal Service REDRESS Program for EEO/discrimination complaints and other workplace disputes. I trained over 2500 neutrals from 32 states, as well as over 18,000 labor and management representatives.

In the international arena, I am one of the founding members of Mediators Beyond Borders, a non-profit offering conflict resolution aid and training for initiatives like the Child Soldier Project in Ghana and the Greek Immigration Dialogue in Athens.
