Feedback digest by Treasa Kenny, 17 Jul 2018 Mediator: Margaret Bouchier Reviewer: Treasa Kenny, Director of Accreditation, Mediators' Institute of Ireland The Mediators' Institute of Ireland is a professional Institute which does not assign mediators' to specific cases nor does it evaluate the performance of mediators through direct client feedback. The Review included a self-declaration by the mediator of client feedback - both verbal and written. Margaret Bouchier specialises in mediating interpersonal and multi-issue workplace conflicts where the parties often have an ongoing working relationship following mediation. Margaret has demonstrated a key strength to the Reviewer in working with parties to identify and explore their issues; find resolution and build appropriate support with relevant others to assure successful long term outcomes. Margaret demonstrates tenacity and persistence in working with parties towards a mutually acceptable resolution even in challenging and difficult situations. By prior agreement, Margaret contacts the parties six to eight months following their mediation to get confidential feedback in relation to the status of their mediated agreement; the general outcomes arising from the mediation and the parties' personal experiences of the mediation. This structured follow-up enables Margaret to self-evaluate as well as check the longevity of the mediated agreements. The most common feedback received by Margaret is that, while issues may still arise, the parties manage the issues differently and more constructively, with many parties stating greater understanding of both the 'other' and self as factors influencing their improved working relationship. The development of agreed problem-solving mechanisms and the identification of creative approaches to contextual issues during mediation and, where appropriate, post mediation, have proved significant particularly in more complex multi-issue cases. To Margaret's knowledge, no mediated agreement she has supported parties in reaching has been put aside either by the parties themselves or another body. No reportable negative comments have been received by the Mediators' Institute in relation to Margaret's mediation practice.
