Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC)
Feedback digest by Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC), 3 Oct 2018 Mediator: Mr Michael Moey Reviewer: Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC) This Feedback Digest is based on 5 feedbacks in 5 mediations initially submitted on 05 Dec 2007. SMC administers its own survey to evaluate and review its mediation services and skills of the mediator. Michael has been highly rated at Levels 4 and 5 (out of 5) by lawyers and parties whom he has acted as a mediator. Parties have recommended Michael's service as a mediator because he does not put pressure on them to accept a settlement. Parties also feel that they have a great deal of input to determine the final outcome. Mr Michael Moey has been a mediator on the Principal Panel with the Singapore Mediation Centre (SMC) since January 2002. He has mediated many disputes including family matters, intellectual property disputes, breaches of duties by company directors and tort claims. He is also a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators. Michael has been a lawyer since 1987 and specializes in dispute resolution. He has experience in handling corporate and commercial matters, including breaches of contract, criminal matters, construction disputes, breaches of directors’ duties, employment disputes including restrictive covenants and confidentiality clauses, family and trust issues. As Michael is fluent in English, Mandarin, and has a working knowledge of Cantonese and Hakka, he is able to communicate well with parties. This allows him to understand the nuances in communication between parties if there are differences in cultural perceptions. His strengths are being able to understand the needs and interest of the parties so as to build their trust and ease tension between the different parties. A party had feedback that he was ‘kind and polite’ and the mediation setting was ‘very casual with no pressure’. Another said that he created a ‘satisfactory and happy environment’. He is also able to see beneath the surface of the dispute and steer the parties towards addressing the real issues between them. When necessary, he will think outside the box to come up with creative strategies to resolve the disputes.
