Feedback digest by M Mittendorff, 20 Aug 2018 This feedback Digest is based on thirty one mediations since 2007. Since 2010 there were 20 mediations. Nine of the ten mediations in 2010 were about three property tax cases. In 2011 there were three labour cases and a mediation about infrastructure. In 2012 one was about a tax case, two about labour cases end one about problems in a street. As a colleague of Mr. Piet Jeuken I participate in a reviewing-group of mediators, of which he too takes part. As such I learned a lot about his professional attitude and skills. Even more I learned from him in mediations we did together in 2012, 2013 and 2014. He is admissible to accept feed-back of the parties and his colleagues and eager to learn from his own experiences and those of his colleagues. From reviewing the feedback received from participants in Mr Jeuken's Mediations, and from my experience in working with him, the following is evident to me: He is a very conscientious mediator with a sound and solid eagerness to reach a settlement for the parties in mediation. He gives confidence to the parties and stimulates their self-confidence. He is transparent in his specific approach of each case and accustomed to explain in advance the various steps in the mediation-process to the parties. During the mediation he makes quite clear to the parties what is possible during the mediation process, and what is not allowed or not helpful in the process, for example about the role of lawyers. He is able to encourage the parties to develop a range of solutions and to enforce them to do so. He is very scrupulous in the application of the various mediation-techniques but not averse to experiment with other types of interventions and, for example, coaching-techniques. He is an expert in matching the right form to the particular situation and parties. He applies forms of negotiation if that contributes to the solution, and knows how to handle stress factors in these negotiations. Participants comment that Mr.Jeuken is a very good listener and is truly concerned for the interests of the parties, now and in the future. Therefore he tries not only to get a result of negation on paper, but also in the heart and mind of people, so that they can get on with it. Respondents feel that he is strong in managing escalations which raise between the parties and he is extraordinary able to restore trusting relationships with parties. Mr Jeuken normally requests the feed-back of the parties after the mediation had ended and uses for that purpose a self-drafted evaluation-form. He is very open towards others about their various, mostly positive, reactions. Most of the parties for whom he acted as a mediator are highly satisfied and willing to him again and to provide positive reference to parties considering the engagement of Mr.Jeuken. I have seen on the evaluation papers that parties gave him a 10 (that is in the Netherlands the best possible score). It is an honour to work with Mr. Jeuken, to learn from him, to join him during work, and see how things can happen if an expert is at work. Drs. G.M. Mittendorff mediator.
