Mediation Profile

I began my career as a tax lawyer in a reputable law firm in Espirito Santo. However, I have realized that a significant part of my passion was in resolving conflicts. When I commenced my LLM at UCL, I have discovered the importance of ADR in a market different from Brazil and saw the possibility to reach new territories in 2016. Therefore, I opened my professional spectrum and was invited to join the Mediated Indemnization Program (Programa de Indenização Mediada - PIM). There, I could mediate in one of the three largest mediation programmes in the globe ever, and since then I have been studying mediation and promoting the method in Brazil.

Roberto Kuster is a facilitative mediator based in São Paulo, SP, Brazil. He has an LLM in Litigation and Dispute Resolution at the University College London (UCL). At the moment, Mr. Kuster is the Business Development Manager of CAM-CCBC, the largest and most recognized Arbitration and Mediation Center of Latin America, according to Queen Mary 2018 Arbitration Survey.

Mr. Kuster has over 4.000 hours being the Senior Mediator of the Mediated Indemnization Programme (Programa de Indenização Mediada - PIM), a top 3 mediation program in size in the world, with the objective to indemnify the impacted population of the dam leakage in Mariana, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 2015. He was based at Baixo Guandu, one of the cities affected by Samarco dam leakage, with obligations such as the supervision of 4500+ cases, and assistance and mediation of more complex cases of the unit under his responsibility. He led and supervised, from 2016 to 2018, a team of 7 mediators.  He was mentored and led by Diego Faleck, the most recognized mediator in Brazil. Mr. Kuster also mediated family, commercial and civil cases, mostly judicial, on the year of 2018.

Member of the Brazilian Bar; Member of the Arbitration and Mediation Board of the Espirito Santo Bar; ICFML Level 1 Certified (IMI Partner in Brazil).
