Mediation Profile

I am a civil and commercial mediator.

I have mediated over 300 cases with a settlement rate of over 90%. I have also attended many mediations as a representative and on 3 occasions as a party. This gives me a 360 degree view of what the mediation experience is like for all those involved.

- dual accredited in the UK and the USA through the ADR Group and INADR
- listed in Chambers 2015 Ranking of Mediators as a leading individual
- undertook specialist training as a workplace and family mediator but do not practice specifically in those fields.
- a Solicitor of the Supreme Court in England and Wales and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
- a visiting Lecturer at Kings College London where I teach the mediation module on the Masters in Construction Law.

I have published 2 books on Mediation Advocacy:
- Mediation Advocacy : Representing Clients in Mediation 2015 Bloomsbury
- Advising and Representing Clients at Mediation 2013 Wiildy

I left practice as a solicitor in 2011 after 30 years as a commercial litigator in London specialising.

I have mediated over 300 mediations including disputes involving:
• professional negligence
• racial discrimination
• financial services including re-insurance and banking
• insurance coverage
• landlord and tenant
• construction and building disputes
• trusts
• personal injury
• property development
• boundary and rights of way
• family, inheritance and probate
• supply contracts
• agency and franchise agreements
• partnerships
• directors break-ups
• shareholders' rights and unfair prejudice
• employment

I see my job as a mediator to identify the obstacles to settlement and help the parties to get over them. I have been described as proactive. I have been described as having: • 'a relaxed firm style and a sense of humour' • a strong personality without being overbearing • gravitas which clients like • the ability to be succinct I encourage the parties: • To consider the value as well as the cost of settlement. • To concentrate on the problem solving part of the mediation day rather than on the advocacy and point scoring part (I like to get proposals on the table before lunch). • To see how the gap can be bridged (including one memorable mediation where they tossed a coin for the final £10,000).
